Here’s some of what we’re doing:
Providing renewable electricity as standard
All our electricity is 100% renewable*, as standard, whichever tariff you choose. This comes from a range of UK-based generators, including:
Wind
As much as we complain about windy weather, it’s a great source of renewable electricity.
Solar
Solar panels use photovoltaic cells to harness the power of the sun to make electricity. As if we needed another reason to love the sunshine.
Hydro
We can harness the power of moving water to generate electricity.
Biomass
Biomass is made from anything derived from organic matter. That includes crops and waste products.
Helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint
Our tariffs already come with 100% renewable electricity*. That means it comes from renewable sources, such as wind or solar farms. But there are still carbon-dioxide emissions associated with the production of this energy.
If you choose our Go Further tariff, we’ll offset the emissions associated with the production, distribution and use of your energy. That means the carbon emissions from your home energy are offset from start to finish.
Helping our customers produce and store their own energy
We’ve teamed up with sonnen, creators of the sonnenBatterie, an intelligent way to store the energy from your solar panels.
Supporting the transition to electric vehicles
Shell is making big investments in EV charging infrastructure and rolling out fast charging at forecourts, Waitrose stores and other destinations, as well as on-street charging and in the home. Shell Energy EV drivers can have a home-charge point installed at a special introductory price.
Offering affordable access to smart home technology
Smart home tech, such as thermostats, lighting and plugs, are a great way to lower your energy use. At the Shell Energy shop, we offer deals on smart tech from brands like Google, Philips, and Ring.
Helping our customers use less energy
You’ll find advice on how to lower your energy use – and your bills – on our blog and website.
Protecting natural ecosystems
Nature can help us curb CO2 emissions. That’s why we contribute to nature-based carbon-offset programmes on your behalf. These projects protect and restore existing natural forest ecosystems, which absorb and store carbon dioxide.
We’re working with two important projects in Cordillera Azul (Peru) and Katigan Mentaya (Indonesia). These projects provide jobs for local communities, as well as helping to reduce CO2 emissions globally. That’s good news for everyone, including us here in the UK.

*Our renewable electricity is certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), which means that all of the electricity you buy from us is matched with the equivalent number of units from 100% renewable sources in the UK.
