If you get cheaper electricity at certain times, also known as Economy 7, your meter will have two readings – one for your day usage and one for your night usage.

Not sure which is which? How do I read my two-rate meter?

My online account is asking for the wrong number of readings

If one of the following applies:

  • you have a two-rate meter, but your online account only asks for one meter reading, or
  • you have a single-rate meter, but your online account asks for two meter readings

then we may have set up your account incorrectly.

We can easily fix this for you. Just take a photo of your meter, and another photo showing the reading(s) on the display. If your two-rate meter only shows one reading at a time, you’ll need to take a photo of each reading.

Please email us the photos, making sure the lighting is good and the pictures clearly show the screen.

We’ll be in touch to let you know when we’ve fixed the issue with your account.

My two-rate meter readings are the wrong way round on my account

It’s possible that, when you switched to Shell Energy and we set up your new account, your two readings were flipped around by mistake.

If this has happened to you, the best thing to do is to take a couple of readings at different times on the same day. This will help us confirm your day rate and night rate. It’s really quick and easy to do – it’s what we call a Timed Space Test.

What’s a Timed Space Test and why have I been asked to do one?

Then all you need to do is email us the results and we’ll be in touch to let you know when we’ve fixed the issue with your account.
