What is a gas safety check?

A gas safety check is an inspection of your gas appliances – eg boilers, ovens and fires – to make sure they’re safe and working correctly.

Can I get a free gas safety check?

If you’re eligible, you can receive a free gas safety check.

To be eligible, both of the following must apply:

  • You must be the homeowner (not a tenant) 
  • You must receive means-tested benefits


Also, one of the following must also apply:

  • Someone of pensionable age, disabled, or chronically sick lives in the house


  • Your household includes at least one child under five

What if I am not eligible?

It’s easy to arrange a gas safety check yourself, but be sure to check the engineer is a member of the Gas Safe Register (formerly CORGI). For a list of registered businesses, visit the Gas Safe Register, or call 0800 408 5500.

How do I apply for a free gas safety check?

If you’re eligible for our Priority Service Register, you can choose this service by filling out this form and selecting the additional service.

If you don’t wish to sign up to the PSR, but are eligible for a free gas safety check, you can contact us to request the service.
