What is a gas safety check?
A gas safety check is an inspection of your gas appliances – eg boilers, ovens and fires – to make sure they’re safe and working correctly.
Can I get a free gas safety check?
If you’re eligible, you can receive a free gas safety check.
To be eligible, both of the following must apply:
- You must be the homeowner (not a tenant)
- You must receive means-tested benefits
Also, one of the following must also apply:
- Someone of pensionable age, disabled, or chronically sick lives in the house
- Your household includes at least one child under five
What if I am not eligible?
It’s easy to arrange a gas safety check yourself, but be sure to check the engineer is a member of the Gas Safe Register (formerly CORGI). For a list of registered businesses, visit the Gas Safe Register, or call 0800 408 5500.
How do I apply for a free gas safety check?
If you don’t wish to sign up to the PSR, but are eligible for a free gas safety check, you can contact us to request the service.
