The Warm Home Discount has changed in England and Wales. You may have applied for it in previous years, but for 2023-2024 it will be given automatically to a wider group of eligible customers instead.

What is the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount scheme is a joint activity between energy companies and the Government. It helps customers struggling with their finances by giving them £150 towards their energy bills.

Who is eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

In England and Wales, the Warm Home Discount is available to households who:

1. Were with us as electricity customers on Sunday 13th August 2023

2. Have been identified via government records as being on low incomes and most likely to be living in homes which are expensive to heat

3. Receive one or more of the following benefits:

  • Pension Credit with Guarantee Credit

  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income Support

  • Universal Credit

  • Housing benefit

  • Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits

  • Pension Credit Savings Credit (PCSC)

If this is you, you’ll receive a letter from the Government this autumn confirming you’re eligible for the 2023/2024 Warm Home Discount payment. The letter may ask you to call the Warm Home Discount helpline to confirm some details (before 28 February 2024). You’ll see the discount on your bill before 31 March 2024.

If you have a smart prepayment meter, the Warm Home Discount will appear as a credit on your electricity meter. If you have a traditional prepayment meter, you'll receive a £150 voucher to redeem at any Paypoint top-up location.
